Terence Crawford Draws Over 1 Million Viewers on HBO this Past Saturday

It appears as though this past Saturday’s boxing event on HBO was a knockout.

Terence Crawford, one of the best fighters on the planet who is yet to become a household name might be closer to stardom than many think. “Bud” dominated Felix Diaz in front of thousands of rabid fans inside Madison Square Garden in New York and eventually forced a corner stoppage after round 10. The Omaha native busted Diaz up to the head and body relentlessly to retain his WBC and WBO super lightweight titles and fight fans across the country tunes in in droves.

The HBO telecast registered as the top-performing bout on premium cable in 2017 thus far, luring in 961,000 viewers on average. The fit itself peaked at 1,036,000 viewers, even while going head-to-head with a solid event on rival network Showtime and another boxing card on FS1.

The Crawford-Diaz duel eclipsed the Lomachenko-Sosa showdown from April, which pulled in an average of 832, 000 viewers. The opening bout of the telecast on Saturday, which saw Raymundo Beltran flatten Jonathan Maicelo, peaked at 723,000 and averaged 687,000.

Crawford is clearly trending upward as he seeks out another major opponent to showcase his immense talent. His win over Diaz was a 19 percent increase from his previous HBO appearance, when drew an average of 806,000 viewers to see him pummel John Molina Jr. in December.
