Frye neither minced words nor wasted time, especially early in his career. The UFC 8 tournament winner and UFC 10 tournament runner-up already had two sub-minute finishes on his resume when he faced Hall for a second time in the Ultimate Ultimate 96 tournament semifinals at the Fair Park Arena. A crowd of 6,000 gathered to witness the event. Frye closed the distance and executed a body-lock takedown in the center of the cage. He then stood, sat back on Hall’s right leg and bit down on an Achilles lock. After a brief struggle, Hall shouted out in distress and tapped to the pain 20 seconds into the first round. Frye went on to defeat David Abbott in the final, submitting “Tank” with a rear-naked choke in what would be his last appearance inside the Octagon.
