Fortis MMA standout Diego Ferreira will attempt to avenge one of his two career defeats when he faces Beneil Dariush in a three-round showcase at UFC Fight Night 184 this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Dariush took a unanimous decision from the Brazilian in their first encounter a little more than six years ago.

Ferreira enters the rematch on the strength of a six-fight-winning streak. He last competed at UFC 246 on Jan. 18, 2020, when he submitted former UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting champion Anthony Pettis with a second-round rear-naked choke. Dariush, meanwhile, has rattled off five straight victories since being upset by promotional newcomer Alexander Hernandez in 2018. The Kings MMA rep last appeared at UFC Fight Night 174, where he wiped out Scott Holtzman with a spinning backfist in the first round of their Aug. 8 battle.

As Ferreira and Dariush make final preparations for their sequel, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

36: Years of age for Ferreira, who was born on Jan. 18, 1985 in Careira da Varzea, Brazil—a city of some 30,000 people that rests on the banks of the Amazon River.

7: Ferreira victories by submission, accounting for 41% of his career total (17). His methods of choice: four rear-naked chokes, one kimura, one arm-triangle choke and one armbar. Ferreira owns seven other wins by decision and three more by knockout or technical knockout.

38: Seconds needed for Ferreira to submit “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 16 winner Colton Smith at UFC Fight Night 44 on June 28, 2014. It remains the fastest finish of his career and the sixth-fastest submission at 155 pounds in UFC history.

2,135: Days since Ferreira last tasted defeat. He was knocked out by Dustin Poirier in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 63 pairing on April 4, 2015 and has compiled a perfect 6-0 record in six subsequent appearances.

1: Regional title on the Ferreira mantle. He laid claim to the Legacy Fighting Championship lightweight crown with a five-round unanimous decision over Jorge Patino at LFC 25 on Nov. 15, 2013. Ferreira made his UFC debut some seven months later.

31: Years of age for Dariush, who was born on May 6, 1989, in Gol Tappeh, a small city of roughly 2,000 people in the northwest quadrant of Iran.

13: Dariush wins as a UFC lightweight, placing him ninth on the promotion’s all-time list at 155 pounds. Only Jim Miller (19), Donald Cerrone (17), Gleison Tibau (16), Joe Lauzon (15), Rafael dos Anjos (15), Francisco Trinaldo (15), Edson Barboza (14) and Tony Ferguson (14) have more.

8: First-round finishes on the Dariush resume, providing him with 42% of his professional win total (19). One of those victories was of the sub-minute variety, as he submitted Trace Gray with an armbar 36 seconds into the first round of their January 2013 confrontation under the Respect in the Cage banner.

5: Countries in which Dariush has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 15-2-1 in the United States, 2-1 in Brazil, 1-0 in Mexico, 1-0 in Singapore and 0-1 in the United Arab Emirates.

55: Significant strikes by which Dariush outlanded Evan Dunham in their majority draw at UFC 216 on Oct. 7, 2017. He was statistically superior to Dunham in all three rounds—he outlanded him 36-5 in the first, 19-9 in the second and 26-22 in the third—while also landing a knockdown and limiting him to one successful takedown in seven tries. Judges Dave Hagen and Glenn Trowbridge scored it 28-28, while Sal D’Amato saw it 29-28 for Dariush. Advertisement
