By The Numbers: Dillon Danis

Dillon Danis resides at the intersection of bluster and technique.

Just two fights into his professional mixed martial arts career, the outspoken Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and SBG Ireland export has established himself as a lightning rod under the Bellator MMA banner and beyond. Danis arrived on the MMA scene in 2018, buoyed by world-class grappling chops and his connection to former two-division Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder Conor McGregor. A little more than five months after he debuted, “El Jefe” was one of the primary instigators in a post-fight melee that spilled into the crowd at UFC 229—the event at which McGregor surrendered his lightweight crown in a fourth-round submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Danis has only continued to push the envelope since.

As Danis awaits his next assignment from Bellator, here are some of the numbers that have come to define him:

26: Years of age. Danis was born on Aug. 22, 1993 in Parsippany Hills, New Jersey.

4: Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medals for Marcelo Garcia—the man who awarded Danis his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt in April 2015.

2: Wins in MMA, both by first-round submission. Danis disposed of Kyle Walker at Bellator 198, then followed suit against Max Humphrey at Bellator 222.

412: Days between his two professional fights. Danis defeated Walker on April 28, 2018 and did not compete again until June 14, 2019.

98: Seconds needed to submit Walker with a toe hold at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. It was Walker’s third straight submission loss, as he had bowed to a DeWayne Diggs rear-naked choke and a Kyle Daukaus brabo choke in his two appearances prior to facing Danis.

1,400,000: Views of Danis’ victory over Walker on Bellator’s YouTube channel.

5: Combined wins between the two men Danis has defeated. Walker owns a 2-4 record, while Humphrey currently sits at 3-3.

175: Pounds for his two MMA fights, as Danis faced Walker and Humphrey at an agreed-upon catchweight.

7,500: Dollar fine administered by the Nevada Athletic Commission for his part in the post-fight brawl at UFC 229 on Oct. 6, 2018. Danis was also suspended for seven months.

7: Hours of reconstructive surgery to repair the lateral collateral ligament and meniscus in his right knee—injuries Danis suffered while helping McGregor prepare for his showdown with Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. A timetable for his return remains uncertain.
