IRVINE, Calif. -- Josh Griggs (Pictures) put on a ground-and-pound clinic that eventually set up a standing guillotine submission victory over fellow light heavyweight Miguel Cosio (Pictures) at Battle in the Ballroom "Summerfist II" Sunday in front of a sell-out crowd at the Irvine Marriott.

From the get-go The Boxing Club's Griggs shot in and took down Cosio. Aside from one kick that had already missed, Griggs never let Cosio throw another, as he aggressively rained down punches from top position.

To his credit, Cosio withstood the vicious onslaught and was nearly able to return to his feet until Griggs grabbed a hold of Cosio's head. Griggs quickly locked in the guillotine to earn the tapout at 2:38 of the first round.

Hildred Oliney (Pictures) and Chris Black began their featherweight tilt at a blistering pace with both exchanging punches, knees and kicks. A misstep by Oliney, that caused him to slip and land on his back, turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it eventually helped him set up and sink in an armbar that seemed deep enough to finish the fight. Black however, managed to pick up Oliney and slam his way out.

Oliney continued to press forward from his back and was able to sweep Black and put him down. As Black posted his left arm to fight off the sweep his elbow popped out of place. Referee Larry Landless (Pictures) had no choice but to stop the fight due to the injury at 1:19 into the first round.

No Limits' Juliano Prado made quick work of LA Boxing's Thor Skancke (Pictures) in their lightweight bout, submitting him with a triangle choke at 1:01 of the first round.

Bantamweight John Sassone submitted Tommy Peralta with a well-timed armbar after fending off Peralta's ground-and-pound assault for most of the bout's 1:59 duration.

In a seesaw battle, No Limits' Brian Abram edged out a split decision victory over LA Boxing's Luke Adams (Pictures), which drew the ire of the crowd. Scores for the 145-pound fight were 29-28 twice for Abram and 30-27 for Adams.

It took OC Muay Thai's Cesar Macias a mere 12 seconds to finish MMA Headquarters welterweight Sterling Trotter with a face kick that sent Trotter down and his contact lens flying into the crowd.

After a slow first round, Gracie Academy welterweight Jarrod Kwitty (Pictures) turned it on in the second and was able to submit a game Sparta MMA's Marcos Gonzalez with an armbar at 1:13 of the second round.
