How to Watch DWCS 2022, Week 5

Ben DuffyAug 21, 2022

After an uncharacteristic drought in Week 1, the Dana White's Contender Series floodgates have opened back up, and this week’s participants will do their best to make sure the Ultimate Fighting Championship contracts keep flowing.

The 2022 season debut of the Contender Series ended with a clearly frustrated White excoriating the night’s fighters and walking off camera, leaving only one fighter, Joseph Pyfer, with a contract. In the three weeks since, however, White has bestowed offers on 13 of 15 winners and one loser, Shannon Ross, while another winner, Bo Nickal, received a return invite to the Contender Series.

DWCS 2022, Week 5, which takes on Tuesday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and streams live to ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, features 10 fighters who surely hope that the eponymous head of the Contender Series is feeling more like Santa Claus than Ebenezer Scrooge. If those hopes come true, then their destinies are in their own hands, since the pattern over the last few seasons has been that the large majority of winners receive UFC contracts. This week’s lineup is an interesting blend of green-but-promising youngsters and surprisingly well-traveled veterans, with the pair of 5-0 big men atop the card, Eduardo Jose Neves and Michael Parkin, likely to get a long look from a promotion that seems continually desperate for new heavyweight blood.
