6 Strikeforce ‘Fedor vs. Silva’ Fighters Dealt Medical Suspensions

After sustaining brutal ground-and-pound at the hands of Antonio Silva during Saturday’s Strikeforce “Fedor vs. Silva” main event, Fedor Emelianenko will be required to spend a minimum of 90 days on the shelf, pending a CT scan.

The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board on Tuesday informed Sherdog.com of the medical suspensions from the event, which took place Feb. 12 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

Emelianenko was battered and beaten by heavy underdog Silva, who forced the bout to be stopped prior to the third round on the advice of the cageside physician. Emelianenko’s face suffered severe bruising, and his right eye was swollen completely shut after Silva gained the mount in the second round and rained down punches.

Emelianenko-Silva was one of two heavyweight grand prix quarterfinals contested at the show, the other being a bout between former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski and onetime Pride Fighting Championships standout Sergei Kharitonov.

After a brief feeling out process that saw Arlovski attempt to use his movement to frustrate the Russian, the “Pitbull” was caught with a massive right hook that floored him. From there, the end was academic, as Kharitonov dropped multiple shots on the fallen Belarusian, rendering him unconscious. Arlovski was suspended 30 days for the KO defeat.

In other bouts, Gian Villante was suspended 30 days for his TKO loss to Chad Griggs. Though Griggs earned the win, he has also been suspended 30 days due to a hematoma on his ear caused by a Villante high kick.

From the undercard, Don Carlo-Clauss must spend at least 30 days inactive to allow a laceration to heal, while Anthony Leone has been suspended a minimum of 90 days for a broken nose.
