8 Bouts Booked for UFC Live 5 in Milwaukee
Brian Knapp Jun 3, 2011
Former welterweight title contender Dan Hardy will
meet Chris
Lytle in the UFC
Live 5 main event on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in
Milwaukee. Eight fights are now signed for the event, which will
air on the Versus network.
Hardy (Pictured; file photo) will carry a three-fight losing streak into the match. The 29-year-old Team Rough House representative last appeared at UFC Fight Night 24 in March, when he came out on the wrong end of a one-sided unanimous decision defeat to Anthony Johnson at the Key Arena in Seattle. A tae kwon do black belt and Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Hardy has secured more than half (15) of his 23 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Wins over American Kickboxing Academy standout Mike Swick and Pride Fighting Championships veteran Akihiro Gono anchor his resume, which includes a 4-3 mark in the UFC.
Based at the
Integrated Fighting Academy in his native Indianapolis, Lytle
last competed at UFC
127 in February, when journeyman Brian
Ebersole handed him a unanimous decision loss at the Acer Arena
in Sydney, Australia. The defeat snapped his four-fight winning
streak. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with professional boxing
experience, the 36-year-old has delivered 21 of his 30 mixed
martial arts wins by submission. Lytle, a five-time “Fight of the
Night” winner, owns notable victories over former UFC welterweight
champion Matt Serra,
Strikeforce
veteran Pat
Healy and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 alum Matt Brown
(twice). His 19 Octagon appearances rank sixth all-time.
Meanwhile, surging lightweight title contender Jim Miller will square off with former WEC champion Benson Henderson in the co-main event.
Anchored at the MMA Lab in Glendale, Ariz., Henderson has posted 11 wins in his last 12 appearances. The 27-year-old tae kwon do black belt made his promotional debut at UFC 129 in April, defeating Mark Bocek by unanimous decision at the sold-out Rogers Centre in Toronto. Henderson, who trains under Royce Gracie protégé John Crouch, was a two-time NAIA All-American wrestler at Dana College in Nebraska. More than half (eight) of his 13 career victories have come by submission.
UFC Live 5 will also feature a light heavyweight duel pairing “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar with the once-beaten Karlos Vemola, a welterweight matchup pitting “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 7 winner Amir Sadollah against Duane Ludwig and a bantamweight tilt matching Team Alpha Male representative Joseph Benavidez with former WEC champion Eddie Wineland. In addition, three other fights have been signed for the show: C.B. Dollaway vs. Jared Hamman, Leonard Garcia vs. Alex Caceres and Cole Miller vs. T.J. O’Brien.

Miller will enter the cage with momentum to spare, having rattled
off seven consecutive wins. The 27-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu
black belt last fought at UFC
128 in March, when he stopped the previously unbeaten Kamal
Shalorus on third-round punches at the Prudential Center in
Newark, N.J. Miller holds an excellent 9-1 mark in the UFC, with
victories over Brazilian prospect Charles
Oliveira, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 alum Matt Wiman,
“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 winner Mac Danzig and
American Top Team’s Gleison
Tibau. An
AMA Fight Club representative, his only career defeats have
come to Frankie
Edgar and Gray
Maynard, the UFC’s top two lightweights. In 22 professional
outings, Miller has never been finished.
