AXS TV to Broadcast 35 Combate Americas Events in 2020
AXS TV is going to remain in the MMA business.
The network on Wednesday announced a partnership with Combate Americas to air 35 of the promotion’s events in 2020. The cards will air Friday nights on AXS TV in the United States and on Fight Network internationally.
“Combate Americas has an impressive championship pedigree, powered
by MMA visionary Campbell McLaren,” Anthem Sports & Entertainment
CEO Ed Nordholm stated in a release. “We believe that Combate
Americas is an outstanding promotion to carry AXS TV’s rich legacy
in mixed martial arts. This landmark agreement marks a continuation
of our commitment to showcasing the best athletes from all across
the world, and is the perfect complement to our sports
content.”
In addition to the live events, AXS TV will air “Best of Combate Americas” programs and will co-produce episodes of various other shoulder programming.
Combate Americas has thus far held 45 events since its inception. It will venture into the pay-per-view market with a card headlined by Tito Ortiz and Alberto Rodriguez in Hidalgo, Texas, on Dec. 7.
“Combate Americas is continuing to make history and disrupt the greatest sport in the world with our brand of Mucha Más Acción. This historic deal with AXS TV and its new ownership group will allow us to add Spanish flavor to every home in the U.S. and Canada in 2020. Get ready.” said McLaren, who is Combate Americas CEO.
AXS TV was previously home to 77 Legacy Fighting Alliance events over a 32-month period. The network announced in September that it was ending its broadcast arrangement with the Texas-based promotion. LFA will now air on UFC Fight Pass.
