The promotion officially announced the signing on Wednesday. Perez is expected to make his Combate Americas debut in January. “El Goyito” has previously worked for the organization as a color commentator, and he will continue in that role moving forward, including the upcoming “Copa Combate” one-night bantamweight tournament.
“We are thrilled to welcome ‘Goyito’ Pérez, the top Mexican fighter in the sport of MMA, and look forward to having him compete in La Jaula [the Combate Americas cage],” Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren said in a release.
Perez ended his UFC tenure with a 7-2 mark and chose to sign with Combate Americas after completing his most recent contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion, according to a report from MMAFighting.com. The 27-year-old Monterrey, Mexico, native hasn’t competed since November 2016, when he earned a split decision over Felipe Arantes at UFC Fight Night 98.
