After Torching Mirsad Bektic, Josh Emmett Has Featherweight Title on His Mind

Mirsad Bektic had won two in a row and 13 of 14 overall. He was a sizeable betting favorite going into Saturday, but opponent Josh Emmett made sure to put a halt to any and all hype surrounding the Bosnian.

Emmett (15-2) turned out Bektic’s lights in one of the featured bouts at UFC Fight Night 155 in Sacramento, Calif.. The team Alpha Male fighter dropped his foe with a sizzling left hook on the inside and from there, he unfurled heaping fistfuls of punishment until referee Jason Herzog had no choice but to rip him off. The end came at 4:25 of the first, giving the Sacramento native his second straight win and fourth in five tries.

The win shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone – save maybe Bektic and his team – because Emmett has lethal hands. He’s starched three of his last four foes with punches and Saturday was no different.

“I possess a lot of power,” Emmett said after his win. “Any strike, I’m throwing it with bad intentions. Mirsad is a tough competitor. I just had to get in there for myself. I’m a different beast. I have to fuel myself. I felt his strength and knew I had more.

“I’m coming into my own,” he added. “I’ve never lost a fight in Sacramento and I was not starting tonight. It was a great night. My wife and I are now going to Europe for three weeks.”

Ranked in the lower half of the top-10 within the UFC, Emmett sees no reason why he can’t shoot up the proverbial ladder. Bektic was ranked a peg or two below him and now he wants to only face men above him.

“I want to fight people in front of me,” he said. “I want someone in the top five or three to get me closer to that title fight. I’m in this because I want to be a world champion. I feel like I’m the best in the world. I got into this later than most, so I want to fight the best. I want to get closer to that title fight. That’s my ultimate goal and I’m on my way.”
