Aleksander Emelianenko to Headline Russian Cagefighting Championship 6 on May 4

Aleksander Emelianenko will headline Russian Cagefighting Championship’s sixth event on May 4 in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Emelianenko's opponent is still unknown, but it will definitely be a fighter from outside Russia.

“The sixth tournament will take place in Chelyabinsk. It will be the the biggest mixed martial arts tournament for the city,” RCC executive manager Nikolai Klimenko said. “We are planning that Aleksander Emelianenko will perform in the main fight of the evening. We are considering several options for foreign rivals for him, including Francimar Barroso, with whom Aleksander was supposed to fight in December.”

The 37-year-old Emelianenko, the younger brother of Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko, owns a 28-7-1 career mark. He was scheduled to fight at RCC 5 this past December but had to withdraw due to the recurrence of an old injury. Mikhail Mokhnatkin replaced Emelianenko and lost a decision to Barroso.

Emelianenko last appeared at World Cagefighting Championship Akhmat 50, where he battled Bellator veteran Tony Johnson to a draw in the evening’s main event. Prior to that, Emelianenko had earned back-to-back wins over UFC veterans Viktor Pesta and Gabriel Gonzaga under the RCC banner.
