Alex Chambers was a significant underdog heading into her matchup with Paige VanZant at UFC 191, but an apparent knee injury suffered in the middle of the fight certainly didn’t make life any easier.
“I’m not making any excuses; it was a tough, hard fight,” Chambers wrote. “Unfortunately, early in the [second] round, I blew my knee and it changed my game plan and what I could do. I [fought] for the next [six] minutes like this.”
Chambers fell to 1-2 in the UFC with the loss. After submitting to an Aisling Daly armbar in her debut at “The Ultimate Fighter 20” finale, Chambers rebounded to tap out Curran in her next outing on May 10. Against VanZant, however, “Astro Girl” looked largely overmatched throughout the 115-pound contest.
The 36-year-old Australian did not give a timetable for her return to the Octagon.
“I’m looking forward to healing up, begin training for my next fight and continue doing what I love,” Chambers wrote.
