Alex Morono Guillotines Derrick Krantz, Grabs Welterweight Championship at Legacy 49
When opportunity knocked, Alex Morono turned to his most trusted maneuver.

Before the guillotine fell, Krantz seemed headed for a landslide victory. The Team 515 rep executed multiple takedowns, climbed to mount and opened a cut underneath Morono’s right eye. It was not enough. Morono (11-3) returned to his feet against the visibly fatigued champion, let his hands go and forced Krantz to dive on an ill-advised takedown. In an instant, the arm-in guillotine was place, with no escape to be had. The tapout followed not long after the fighters hit the mat.
“I practice the guillotine all the time,” Morono told AXS-TV color
commentator Pat Miletich.
“It’s my No. 1 sub. I catch black belts all the time in it.”
In the co-main event, Karate Mafia’s Andrea Lee submitted Ariel Beck with a third-round armbar to claim the vacant Legacy women’s flyweight championship. An Invicta Fighting Championships veteran, Lee (4-1) finished it 4:22 into round three.
Beck (3-2) showed remarkable resilience, as she absorbed sustained punishment and escaped repeated submission attempts throughout the first two rounds. In the third, Lee carved out her path to victory. She lured Beck into the clinch, dragged her to the canvas, softened her with elbows from half guard and advanced to mount. From there, Lee dropped punches and elbows, snatched a triangle and transitioned to the fight-ending armbar.
Meanwhile, an inexcusable error in judgment brought an unfortunate close to what had been a flyweight barnburner between Matt Schnell and Jonathon Martinez. An illegal knee strike to the head of the grounded Schnell resulted in Martinez (7-1) being disqualified 2:21 into the second round.
Bleeding from a cut near his left eye, Martinez wheeled to Schnell’s back in a kneeling position and hunted the rear-naked choke. Schnell (8-2) escaped to his knees, faced Martinez and was met with a knee to the face. He collapsed backward, teetering on the brink of consciousness. After several tense moments, the cageside physician deemed the American Top Team rep unfit to continue.
In other action, Kevin Aguilar (10-1) struck David Bosnick (6-3) into submission 2:04 into the second round of their featherweight scrap; Cody Walker (6-3) put away Kalvin Hackney (14-4) with punches 27 seconds into round two of their clash at 145 pounds; Chase Henry (1-0) submitted Ariel Juarez (0-1) with a triangle choke in the first round of their lightweight affair; Joshua Mosquea (1-0) took care of Robin White (0-1) with a first-round body punch in their pairing at 145 pounds; and Stephanie Alba (3-0) pocketed a unanimous decision over Andy Nguyen (1-1) in a women’s atomweight duel.
