The Ultimate Fighting Championship has added what could be an all-action fight to its event in Virginia this February.
The promotion announced on Thursday that welterweights Alex Oliveira (19-8-1, 2 NC) and Mickey Gall (6-2) will collide at UFC Norfolk in February. The event will take place in the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, as a Fight Night card on Feb. 29.
Oliveira is on a three-fight skid dating back to December 2018, with a submission defeat to Gunnar Nelson followed by two decision losses to Mike Perry and Nicolas Dalby in 2019. This losing stretch is the longest of his career, as he had never dropped consecutive bouts prior to this span of bouts. Sporting a finish rate of 84 percent and several post-fight bonuses to his credit, Oliveira has beaten the likes of Carlos Condit, Will Brooks and Tim Means in his career.
Gall was originally set to face Condit at UFC on ESPN 7 earlier in December, but Condit was forced to withdraw due to a detached retina and a replacement was not sought. Gall's last performance was a decision victory over Salim Touahri, marking the first time that Gall had ever won by judges' verdict. All five of Gall's previous victories came by rear-naked choke, and he has suffered one knockout loss at the hands of Diego Sanchez along with one on the scorecards to Randy Brown.
This is not the first fight that is slated to take place on the card, as former Invicta Fighting Championships featherweight queen Megan Anderson posted on Monday that she will be welcoming Norma Dumont Viana to the Octagon. Additionally, another ex-Invicta FC featherweight champ will be appearing on the card, as Felicia Spencer (7-1) will take on Zarah Fairn dos Santos (6-3) as well, with the latter confirming the matchup on her Instagram on Wednesday. Finally, the Virginian-Pilot reported on Thursday that at bantamweight, once-beaten Gabriel Silva would meet newcomer Kyler Phillips, while middleweights Brendan Allen and Tom Breese would lock horns as well.
