Not only was Alistair Overeem brutally knocked out in the waning seconds of the UFC on ESPN 7 main event, but he suffered a gruesome lip injury in the process.

“The Reem” seemed to be in fairly good spirits shortly after the defeat, although he did question the nature of the stoppage. After the Dutchman was knocked down, he popped right back up to his feet while Rozenstruik walked away. However, when Overeem stumbled sideways, referee Dan Miragliotta waved off the heavyweight contest. Had the bout reached the final bell, Overeem would have likely won a decision, as he was ahead on all three scorecards.
“Getting stitched up. Lip not [too] sexy at the moment,” Overeem wrote. “A little bit a fast stoppage if you ask me, but hope you guys enjoyed the fight.”

According to a report from ESPN, Overeem later underwent successful plastic surgery to repair his lip on Saturday night. The 39-year-old Overeem had a two-bout winning streak snapped, and his last four defeats have come via knockout or technical knockout.
