Alpha Male Rep: Aldo-Mendes Possible for UFC 133, UFC 134

After a memorable first title defense against Mark
Hominick at UFC 129 in Toronto, featherweight king Jose Aldo
(Pictured; file photo) already knows the identity of his next
contender: undefeated fellow
WEC import Chad
Mendes.
Fabio “Pateta” Prado, Mendes’ Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor, believes the matchup could land at UFC 134 “Rio” on Aug. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“Both sides have agreed to the fight, but it’s not officially set,”
said Prado, in Rio de Janeiro to back another protégé, Strikeforce
veteran Derrick
Burnsed, at Jungle Fight 28. “We’re already working on facing
Jose
Aldo at UFC 133, but there is a chance for that fight to happen
at UFC 134. As far as I know, people from Brazil are pressuring
[UFC President] Dana [White] in an attempt to convince him.”
Prado told Sherdog.com Team Alpha Male preparations for Aldo-Mendes have already begun, alongside Urijah Faber’s five-round title bout against bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz at UFC 132.
“I can’t say anything until it’s official,” he said. “We’re listening to the rumors. I think that fight will happen, but there’s no contract yet, so there’s no fight yet.”
Aldo recently returned from a 15-day vacation in Florida, where he went to Disney World with teammate Marlon Sandro. He is not expected to return to training until after a 30-day medical suspension from UFC 129 has expired.
UFC 133 “Evans vs. Davis” will be headlined by a light heavyweight tilt between former champion Rashad Evans and undefeated prospect Phil Davis on Aug. 6 in Philadelphia. A middleweight title bout pairing reigning 185-pound king Anderson Silva with Yushin Okami will serve as the main event for UFC 134.
