Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal has had a meteoric rise in 2019 with wins over Darren Till, Ben Askren and most recently Nate Diaz, with the American Top Team product calling for his next fight to be against the guy who will put the most money in his bank.
At 35-years-old, Masvidal’s stock has never been higher, which is
why he’s calling for the UFC to give him an opponent who will bring
him in the most money.
ATT owner Dan Lambert says if that is what Masvidal is after then there is no better opponent than former champion Conor McGregor.
Lambert talked to BJPenn.com recently and said if it were up to him he’d like to see Masvidal face-off against the Irishman, who is set to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon on Jan. 18.
“They are all big money fights, but all different money fights. Jorge and the team made it clear he wants whatever has the most zeros at the end,” Lambert told BJPenn.com. “He wants to make the money, to me, the biggest money fight is always Conor McGregor so if I had it my way, I’d have him fight Conor next. It is probably going to be Nick, and it will get a lot of eyeballs. It is kind of ironic, the lesser money deal is the title fight.”
UFC President Dana White drew criticism from McGregor a few months back when he said he wouldn’t pair the Irishman against Masvidal, as “Gamebred” is too big for him.
McGregor’s next opponent has not been made official but the former champ is rumored to take on Donald Cerrone or Justin Gaejthe.
