MMA Junkie first reported the news on Thursday that Andrea Lee (11-5) would be taking on Antonina Shevchenko (9-2) at UFC 262. The two flyweights will collide on May 15 at a currently undetermined venue that is expected to be the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Lee confirmed the matchup was pending on her Instagram.

“KGB” Lee is looking to snap a three-fight decision skid since September 2019, where she dropped split verdicts to Joanne Calderwood and Lauren Murphy before losing unanimously to Roxanne Modafferi in September 2020. Before this unsuccessful stretch, Lee had never lost consecutive bouts. With appearances at Legacy Fighting Alliance and Invicta Fighting Championships leading to her rise up the division, Lee went on to notch three wins inside the Octagon. Lee has gone the distance in all six of her UFC matches.

Since making her promotional debut in 2018, Shevchenko has alternated wins and losses across those five UFC bouts. Like her opponent, “La Pantera” also suffered a decision setback to Roxanne Modafferi. The Kyrgyzstan-Peruvian fighter went on to earn her first career submission when she put Lucie Pudilova to sleep with a rear-naked choke, only to then lose to Katlyn Chookagian. In her last outing at UFC 255, Shevchenko showed off her Tiger Muay Thai skills by finishing Ariane Lipski in the second round with strikes, all while becoming the first sister tandem – joining champion sibling Valentina Shevchenko – to compete and win on the same card.

UFC 262 will go down on May 15 likely at either the UFC Apex in Las Vegas or on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. No headliner or co-main event bout has yet to be announced for this pay-per-view offering, but a few significant flyweight matches including Alexa Pere vs. Matt Schnell and Katlyn Chookagian vs. Viviane Araujo are currently billed for the event.
