Anthony Hernandez (14-2) would like to have some room for error if he fights Robert Whittaker (26-8).
Making his way to the upper echelon of the middleweight division, Hernandez is now on the verge of attaining contender status. When asked about a potential clash against Whittaker next, Hernandez was excited by the idea.
âFluffyâ said that he would prefer five rounds against the former champ. Known for getting better as the fight progresses, Hernandez often gets tagged in the opening frame of the fight.
âI would love it. That would be an honor, heâs a G,â Hernandez told Home of Fight. âI mean, heâs been in the sport forever. I would love to fight him. That would be a fun one, especially with his style⊠Iâm sure I would get hit with some sât cause that motherfâer is good. Heâs been around forever. I think a five rounder would be great because it gives me time with those hiccup rooms. Iâve usually been caught within the first couple of seconds. Itâs unfortunate, but itâs something that happens. So someone like him, I think five rounds would be ideal. Because I definitely have hiccup room. Iâm not a perfect person. I fâ up a lot.â
Hernandez is now riding a seven-fight winning streak with five finishes. The 31-year-old most recently earned a unanimous decision win in a rematch against Brendan Allen at UFC Seattle last month. Meanwhile, Whittaker is coming off a first round submission loss against Khamzat Chimaev that snapped a two-fight winning streak.
