Arkadiusz Wrzosek Demolishes Tomasz Sarara in KSW 73 Headliner
Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki’s return to Warsaw will be remembered
for its nail-biting main event.
In the KSW 73 headliner, Glory kickboxing veteran Arkadiusz Wrzosek made his mixed martial arts debut as he locked horns with Tomasz Sarara in a heavyweight clash. Sarara (1-1, 1-1 KSW) dropped Wrzosek in the opening round, and dominated on the canvas for the duration but failed to deliver a finish. Wrzosek (1-0, 1-0 KSW) retaliated in the second frame, catching Sarara with a head kick followed by a flying knee. The kickboxer hit the gas pedal and threw punches, knees and kicks at Sarara until his fatigued foe collapsed on the floor. “Hightower” kept striking fast and hard, but Sarara showed heart and survived to see the third frame. In Round 3, Wrzosek controlled his adversary from afar while scoring with punches and kicks. When it appeared that the fight would go the distance, Wrzosek hit his mark with a sharp knee and follow-up punches. Referee Lukasz Bosacki stopped the contest at the 3:55 mark of the third frame.
In the co-main event, former KSW title challenger Daniel
Rutkowski took on “The Ultimate Fighter Brazil” Season 4 winner
and
Ultimate Fighting Championship alum Reginaldo
Vieira (15-7, 0-1 KSW) after the Brazilian replaced Lom-Ali
Eskiev on short notice. Vieira looked good in the opening
frame, winning the striking exchanges and keeping his foe at bay.
As time passed, Rutkowski’s better conditioning suffocated any
initiative from his foe and as soon as Rutkowski (14-3, 2-1 KSW)
moved the action to the canvas, Vieira couldn’t find a solution to
stop “Rutko” from landing punches. In Round 3, Rutkowski’s takedown
and relentless strikes left their mark on Vieira’s face.
Eventually, all three cageside judges agreed to reward Rutkowski
with a unanimous decision.
Elsewhere, Radoslaw Paczuski (5-0, 2-0 KSW) knocked out Jason Radcliffe (MMA 17-10, 2-3 KSW) 100 seconds in the opening frame at middleweight; 125-pounder Karolina Owczarz (5-2, 5-2 KSW) outpointed Natalia Baczynska (MMA 6-3, 0-2 KSW) on all three scorecards; in a 181-pound catchweight, Krystian Bielski (9-4, 1-0 KSW) smashed Ion Surdu (11-4, 1-2 KSW) with punches at the 1:48 mark of the second period; Bogdan Gnidko (8-0, 1-0 KSW) scored the fastest knockout in promotional history after dispatching Damian Piwowarczyk (5-2, 2-2 KSW) five seconds out of the gate of their 214-pound catchweight tilit; Dominik Humburger (4-0, 1-0 KSW) overcame Borys Borkowski (4-2, 1-2 KSW) with punches 2:30 of Round 2 in a 183-pound catchweight match; 145-pounder Pascal Hintzen (8-1, 1-1 KSW) outdueled Patryk Likus (2-1, 2-1 KSW) thanks to a rear-naked choke maneuver 2:07 into the second frame; at bantamweight, Carl McNally (2-0, 1-0 KSW) forced Milosz Melchert (2-1, 0-1 KSW) to tap to a neck crank at 4:19 into Round 1.
