Bantamweight Champion Henry Cejudo Reacts to UFC 250 Cancellation

Henry Cejudo’s first bantamweight title defense will have to wait, but the Olympic gold medalist continues to ooze confidence even as the UFC’s schedule has been indefinitely suspended.

Cejudo was supposed to defend his 135-pound belt against Jose Aldo at UFC 250 on May 9 until ESPN and Disney executives requested that the promotion postpone all events due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The Messenger” recently released a statement regarding the cancellation on his Instagram account.

“A big thank you to my training partners and [coaches] for these last incredible weeks of training. The [GOAT] rampage is officially postponed,” Cejudo wrote. “[GOAT] will be served another day.”

UFC 250 was initially slated for Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but due to government restrictions in the country, a plan was in place to move the event to tribal land in California. Because Aldo would not have been able to secure a visa in time to travel to the U.S., Cejudo was briefly linked to a matchup with ex-champ Dominick Cruz before all events were postponed.

A former two-division champion, Cejudo hasn’t fought since claiming the bantamweight crown with a victory over Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 last June. He has been sidelined since then as he recovers from shoulder surgery. During that hiatus, he relinquished the flyweight belt, which currently remains vacant.
