The two rivals were originally supposed to square off at EliteXC “Heat” on Oct. 4, 2008, but Shamrock was forced to pull out of the fight at the last minute when he suffered an accidental cut during warm-ups. Slice then lost to short-notice foe Seth Petruzelli in 14 seconds.
Slice has not competed since UFC 113 in May 2010, when he suffered a second-round technical knockout loss to Matt Mitrione. Meanwhile, Shamrock’s last appeared in November 2010, falling to Mike Bourke via TKO in the opening stanza at King of the Cage “Platinum.”
Bellator 138 takes place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on Friday, and also includes a featherweight championship bout pitting Patricio Freire (*144.9) against Daniel Weichel (144.5). The evening’s main card airs on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET, while the preliminary draw streams on Spike.com starting at 6:45 p.m. ET.
