Bellator MMA is back after a lengthy absence with what could be a “proof of concept” fight card, and all but one competitor made weight.

Bellator 242 takes place on Friday, July 24 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Headlining the event is a bantamweight battle pitting Ricky Bandejas (13-3) against relative organizational newcomer Sergio Pettis (19-5). The smaller-scale event that has drawn a mixed response will be simulcast on Paramount Network and Dazn at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, with prelims kicking off on Bellator's YouTube channel at 8:45 p.m. ET/5:45 p.m. PT.

Bandejas is an underdog coming into his first Bellator headliner, with a current line courtesy of BetOnline at +140. The always exciting bantamweight has won his last two in the form of knockout victories over Frans Mlambo and Ahmet Kayretli. Bandejas hit the scales without issue at 135.4 pounds.

Facing Bandejas will be the similarly resurgent Pettis, who made his successful promotional debut in January. At that event, Pettis put Alfred Khashakyan to sleep with a guillotine choke in three minutes, and in doing so earned the -160 favorite his first finish victory since 2013. The Roufusport product and former flyweight made the bantamweight limit with ease, coming in at 134.7 pounds.

One fighter did miss weight: Jay-Jay Wilson (147.9)*, who came in 1.9 pounds heavy for his main card featherweight scrap against -240 favorite Tywan Claxton. The +200 underdog Wilson initially tipped the scales at 148.5 pounds, and was allowed to come back later to try again. After failing to reach the proper mark once more, he was fined 20 percent of his purse, which will be given to Claxton.
