Bellator 84 Wraps Season 7 on Dec. 14 with Featherweight, Heavyweight Tournament Finals

The Bellator Fighting Championships will hold its final event of Season 7 on Dec. 14, promotion officials announced Friday, as Bellator 84 takes place at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., and features the conclusion of both the featherweight and heavyweight tournaments. The show will also offer up a rematch between female talents Michele Gutierrez and Felice Herrig, according to the official announcement. As with all Season 7 events, the Bellator 84 main draw airs on MTV2, while the preliminary card is streamed live on Spike.com.

Currently, four men remain in the heavyweight tournament, as Thiago Santos, Richard Hale, Alexander Volkov and Vinicius Kappke de Quieroz all advanced to the semifinal round at Bellator 75. Meanwhile, the featherweight tournament quarterfinals are slated to take place tonight at Bellator 76, which emanates from Caesars Windsor Hotel and Casino in Windsor, Ontario. Vying for the guaranteed 145-pound title shot are Rad Martinez, Akop Stepanyan, Mike Richman and Cody Bollinger, who meet Nazareno Malegarie, Wagnney Fabiano, Jeremy Spoon and Shabulat Shamhalaev, respectively. The winner of each bracket will receive a $100,000 combined payday for his three tournament performances.

Gutierrez [pictured] and Herrig first met in 2009 in Gutierrez’s professional debut, with Herrig emerging victorious via submission. Following the defeat, Gutierrez won her next three fights but has since stumbled in each of her last two outings, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Sarah Maloy at Invicta FC 1 on April 28.

Herrig, 28, has won four of her last five, with only a decision defeat to Bellator vet Carla Esparza blemishing her record in that span. “Lil Bulldog” was last seen on Aug. 3, when she took a unanimous nod from Simona Soukupova at XFC 19 in North Carolina. Herrig made her lone Bellator appearance back in 2010, earning a split verdict over Jessica Rakoczy at Bellator 14.
