Bellator 99 Weigh-in Results: Diego Nunes, Patricio ‘Pitbull’ On Point for Main Event

The Bellator 99 main event has been given the green light, as both Diego Nunes and Patricio Freire came in under the featherweight limit at Thursday’s pre-fight weigh-ins.

Nunes checked in at 145 pounds, while Freire tipped the scales at 145.5. The featherweights will collide in the Season 9 tournament quarterfinals from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif. The evening’s main draw airs live on Spike TV, while the undercard streams immediately prior on

Joining them in the Season 9 draw will be Strikeforce veteran Justin Wilcox (146), who makes his promotional debut against RusFighters representative Akop Stepanyan (146). Stepanyan was originally supposed to lock horns with former title challenger Shahbulat Shamhalaev, but the Dagestani was forced to withdraw from the tournament in order to return home and tend to his ailing father.

Guamanian talent Joe Taimanglo (146) and Brazilian prospect Fabricio de Assis Costa da Silva (145.4) will round out the tournament field, as the featherweights take on Andrew Fisher (145.4) and Desmond Green (146), respectively. The event will also see UFC veterans Vladimir Matyushenko (205.8) and Houston Alexander (204.6) collide, while heavyweight prospect Blagoi Ivanov (251) returns to action for the first time in nearly two years against Manny Lara (246).
