Bellator Boss Confirms James Gallagher-Chinzo Machida for Bellator 180 on ‘The MMA Hour’

One of Conor McGregor's teammates is going to get the Madison Square Garden treatment, as well.

On an in-studio appearance on “The MMA Hour” with host Ariel Helwani on Monday, Bellator MMA President Scott Coker announced that Bellator 180 would feature a featherweight fight between undefeated prospect James Gallagher and Chinzo Machida, the older brother of former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

Bellator takes to MSG in New York City on June 24 for Bellator 180, the second pay-per-view card in the promotion's history and first in Coker's tenure, headlined by a light heavyweight bout between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen. It also features a heavyweight between MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko and UFC vet Matt Mitrione and a pair of title bouts: Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima defends against recent free agent signing Lorenz Larkin, while Michael Chandler puts his 155-pound title on the line against Brett Primus.

Gallagher, 20, turned pro in October 2015 and has so far posted a 6-0 pro mark, with his last three bouts coming in the Bellator cage. The Straight Blast Gym Ireland product last saw action at Bellator 173 on Feb. 24 in Belfast, tapping Kiril Medvedovsky in less than three minutes.

The 40-year-old Machida has won four in a row and both of his Bellator bouts, knocking Mario Navarro out at Bellator 160 last August, then icing Jamar Ocampo late in the third round of their Bellator 170 bout in January.
