Bellator MMA will be taking a trip back to the Pechanga Resort Casino in California, with an event headlined by Andrey Koreshkov vs. Lorenz Larkin.
On Thursday, Bellator MMA announced that they will be making a return to the city of Temecula, California, for an event on March 29. Headlining the event will be former Bellator welterweight champion Koreshkov (21-3) taking on Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce veteran Larkin (20-7, 1 NC).
A frequent destination for the promotion, Bellator has hosted 10 events in Temecula throughout their history; most recently at Bellator 201, where Ilima-Lei Macfarlane made the first defense of her flyweight title.
A quarterfinalist in the Bellator welterweight grand prix, Koreshkov suffered a fifth-round technical submission loss at the hands of Douglas Lima in September. Koreshkov has won two welterweight tournaments with the organization, winning in the finals of Season 7 and 10, and after winning Season 10 he won the belt against Lima. He owns one of a bakers’ dozen stoppages by flying knee throughout promotional history.
Larkin was originally slated in the welterweight grand prix as an alternate, where he was matched up with the undefeated Yaroslav Amosov. It is unclear what scuttled the promotion’s plans for that matchup, or whether this bout will have ramifications in the tournament itself. A former Bellator welterweight title challenger, Larkin is riding a two-fight win streak over Ion Pascu and Fernando Gonzalez this year. Starting his career at heavyweight, Larkin has competed at 170 pounds in each of his last nine bouts since he debuted in the division against John Howard at UFC Fight Night 59 in 2015.
