Antonio Silva will meet Frank Mir in a heavyweight tilt at UFC 184 on Feb. 28.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials announced the pairing Wednesday. The bout joins a card that already features Vitor Belfort against Chris Weidman, as well as Cat Zingano versus Ronda Rousey. The card takes place at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion, will enter the Octagon against Silva in the midst of a four-fight losing streak. With defeats against Junior dos Santos, Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett, and Alistair Overeem, the 35-year-old likely comes into the fight in a must-win situation. The fight will serve as Mir’s 24th under the UFC banner.
Silva is coming off a first-round knockout loss against Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night “Bigfoot vs. Arlovski 2” in Brazil. The defeat was his second in three fights; “Bigfoot” has not tasted victory since February of 2013, when he finished Overeem at UFC 156.
