Britt, Sayers On Point for Strikeforce Challengers 20 Headliner

The Strikeforce “Challengers 20” headliner will move forward as planned, as both Antwain Britt and Lumumba Sayers hit their contracted weights on Thursday.

Making his middleweight debut, Britt tipped the scales at 184 pounds ahead of his clash with Sayers, who weighed in at 185.

Challengers 20 goes down Friday from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. In addition to the headlining attraction, the main draw will also showcase a pivotal women's confrontation between undefeated Olympic judoka Ronda Rousey (146) and hard-punching Canadian Julia Budd (146).

Broadcast on premium cable network Showtime, the five-fight main card will also feature a middleweight scrap pitting Derek Brunson (186) against Nate James (184), as well as a light heavyweight contest between T.J. Cook (205) and Trevor Smith (205).

The event was also supposed to showcase a 185-pound conflict between Anthony Smith and Adlan Amagov (184), but Smith failed to make weight, originally weighing in at 190 pounds. After attempting to drop the excess poundage, he tipped the scales at 188 pounds on his second and final attempt, leaving him two pounds over the maximum allowance. As a result, Smith will forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Amagov, and the fight will go down as a 188-pound catch-weight affair.

Britt has lost three of his last four fights. The former light heavyweight enters the cage following a pair of losses to tough competition, as he was knocked out by Rafael Cavalcante in May 2010 before being outpointed by Ovince St. Preux at Challengers 12 one year ago. “The Juggernaut” has yet to compete in 2011.

Sayers recently had a two-fight winning streak ended by Brunson, who finished the Coloradoan with a first-round rear-naked choke in July. Prior to stumbling in his Strikeforce and M-1 debut against Brunson, Sayers had won four of his first five career bouts by submission. To date, the middleweight has yet to see the second round, as all of his fights have ended within the first five minutes.
