Cerrone No Longer Pursuing Conor McGregor Fight: 'The Chase is Over'

Donald Cerrone returns to the Octagon this weekend against Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 151 in Ottawa, in a fight between two top contenders in the talent stacked 155-pound division.

Cerrone, who currently holds the UFC record for most wins (22) and most finishes (16) was rumored to be fighting former lightweight champion Conor McGregor in his next fight in what would have almost certainly landed the 36-year-old his biggest-ever payday.

Negotiations between both fighters fell through and Cerrone told MMAJunkie.com that he’s moved on from the McGregor fight and is looking forward to his fight against Iaquinta this weekend:

“The chase is over. It’s done. I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m not going to wait. Let’s go.’”

Cerrone maintains that if the offer to fight the Irish superstar ever presented itself to him again he would gladly accept it but claims he is just happy to be fighting.

“Who knows, man?” Cerrone said “I’ll take it if it does, of course. If not, we’ll take whoever’s next. I love my job. I love fighting.”

Cerrone has recorded two impressive back-to-back finishes over Mike Perry and Alexander Hernandez which has propelled him back into title contention and a win over Iaquinta could potentially see him challenge for the lightweight title down the track.
