Evandro Nunes vs. Jimmy Friedrich

Round 1 (20 Minutes)

Evandro Nunes jumps in as a late replacement for Jeff Monson. Friedrich sits to start the match and reaches for a leg. Nunes pulls his leg free and goes to his knees to meet Friedrich on the mat. Friedrich shoots his leg through and attacks for a kneebar, Nunes defends. Friedrich in half guard and again underhooks and spins for the kneebar, Nunes defends. Nunes lays back in an effort to have Friedrich abandon his bottom half guard position; Friedrich doesn’t bite. Unable to force a pass, Nunes again lays back and allows Friedrich to stand up. Friedrich jumps for a kneebar but is unable to secure the hold and and we end up back in the same position. Nunes with a double underhook pass and they roll out-of-bounds. Restarted in the center and we go back to Nunes unsuccessfully fighting for the pass and Friedrich hunting for the kneebar. Another double underhook pass and Friedrich throws his leg over the shoulder and threatens with the kimura, scrambles for the kneebar, and we are back out to a neutral position. With less than 30 seconds left, Nunes jumps for a triangle which is easily shrugged off. Time ends and we have our first Draw.

Clark Gracie vs. Roberto Satoshi

Round 1 (20 Minutes)

In a gi match, Gracie pulls guard and goes right to de la riva. Sataoshi sits down, fights off the hook and stands back up. Gracie with the cross grip on Satoshi’s left arm and trying to set up for an omoplata. Satoshi clears Gracie’s legs but doesn’t completely pass and Gracie replaces open guard. Both men are back on their feet and this time Satoshi pulls guard. Near pass for Gracie but Satoshi stops it and Gracie drops back for a leg lock. Satoshi back on his feet but his left leg is trapped Gracie uses it to sweep. A scramble and a restart and both men are back on their feet. Satoshi with a flying triangle attempt but does not land it. On the mat Gracie gets his hands on Satoshi’s left leg and threatens with a straight ankle lock. Satoshi goes for a leg lock of his own and we are in a grip stalemate. Satoshi stands and dives in for a double underhook stack pass. Gracie stops the pass, sweeps, and pushes for his own double underhook stack pass. Satoshi tries to roll to turtle and Gracie throws on the omoplata; Sataoshi escapes. Satoshi back on his feet, drops for an unsuccessful ankle lock, back on his feet, and passes quickly only to be pushed back outside of Gracie’s guard. Back on the feet and Gracie jumps guard, reverses, and is now working for the pass. Satoshi with good grips, an omoplata attempt which he transitions to a triangle choke, armbar, back to omoplata, and Gracie escapes. Back on the feet for the final 30 seconds and Gracie drops to guard, de la riva, and is unsuccessful in securing anything in the final seconds. Despite the high energy match, Clark Gracie and Robert Satoshi grapple their way to a Draw.

Alexandre Ribeiro vs. Keenan Cornelius

Round 1 (20 Minutes)

The second of our gi matches is under way. Cornelius sits, grabs Ribeiro’s belt, spins underneath and wraps the belt around Ribeiro’s right leg. They end up out-of-bounds and restart the position in the center. Cornelius uses the grip to get to Ribeiro’s back but again they are out-of-bounds and they restart on the feet in the center. Cornelius flops, Ribeiro sits back and Cornelius almost passes. Another scramble and another restart. Ribeiro on his back sits up and lands a takedown. Both men are sitting up and volleying for ideal grips. Both work their way back to their feet but Cornelius still has a lapel laced through Ribeiro’s leg. A flying armbar attempt by Cornelius but it’s easily defended and we begin again with both men grip fighting. Cornelius back on his feet and tries for a step over pass only to be reversed by Ribeiro out-of-bounds. Cornelius sits on the mat and engages Ribeiro and immediately goes inverted. Cornelius’ grips on Ribeiro’s belt and lapel has made it difficult for Ribeiro to mount any passing offense. Ribeiro sits back and gives top position to Cornelius. Cornelius scrambles through a pass attempt and ends up trapping Ribeiro’s left arm and ends up on the mat over his head in an almost crucifix position. Ribeiro works his way out. Cornelius again with a near pass and almost takes Ribeiro’s back. Cornelius with a kimura grip but Ribeiro escapes and time winds down. Draw.

Joe Lauzon vs. Dillon Danis

Round 1 (20 Minutes)

Immediately Danis sits on the mat. Lauzon follows him and the two engage in a leg lock battle to no avail. Lauzon starts to pass and Danis quickly goes for the guillotine. Lauzon rolls out and Danis follows; they roll again and Lauzon is back on his knees and Danis abandons the choke. Danis again takes Lauzon ‘s back and locks in the body triangle. A forward roll and Danis is hunting for Lauzon’s neck. A couple escape attempts and Lauzon rolls back to his knees. Danis still on the back but no longer has the body triangle. They roll again and Danis switches to an armbar. Lauzon defends, stands up and pulls his arm out. Lauzon comes forward and Danis shoots his arm through to lock up the brabo choke. On his knees, Lauzon tries to posture but Danis throws his leg over Lauzon’s back and the choke is just too tight. Lauzon taps.

Chael Sonnen vs. Renato Sobral

Round 1 (20 Minutes)

Both men tie up and Sobral falls to his back with Sonnen in pursuit. Sobral works on the reverse armbar from his full guard and Sonnen shakes him off. Sonnen passes to half guard and Sobral quickly replaces. Sobral grapevines Sonnen’s left leg and Sonnen passes again to half and again Sobral replaces. Sobral with double underhooks and a left leg butterfly hook trying to set up a sweep but Sonnen doesn’t move. Sobral sits up for the kimura but can not pull the arm out from underneath Sonnen and he pulls his arm free. Sobral again attacking for the reverse armbar to no avail. Sobral with another kimura attempt but Sonnen defends and Sobral gives up on it. All defense from Sonnen and even with Sobral giving up half guard there seems to be no attempt from Sonnen to pass all the way to side control. They stand back up with less than ten seconds left and we end with another draw.

Josh Barnett vs. Ryron Gracie

Round 1 (20 Minutes)

Gracie standing very upright as he locks up with Barnett. A bit of hand fighting with both men pummeling for head control. Barnett takes it to the mat and quickly makes his way to half guard. Barnett with double underhooks and Gracie with a butterfly hook on his left side. Gracie elevates but Barnett maintains his base and ends up in half guard on the opposite side. Barnett passes and attempts to mount but ends up in three quarter guard. Gracie is able to push Barnett back and regain half guard. A scramble and Barnett drops for a leg but without any control the end up back in the same position. Gracie with full closed guard is climbing Barnett’s shoulders looking for a possible triangle or armbar. Gracie alternating between rubber guard and high guard but Barnett is able to stand up and now pushes past Gracie’s legs and passes. Barnett goes to north-south and Gracie throws his legs up over Barnett’s head and shoulder looking for a possible inverted triangle. Barnett able to posture up, as he grabs Gracie’s legs in front of him. He rolls over to a toe hold. Gracie taps.
