Champ Injured, Ringside Sets Interim WW Title Bout for April 9

Ringside MMA welterweight titleholder Chris Clements has suffered an ankle injury and has been forced to withdraw from his first title defense against Alex Garcia at Ringside 10.
A source close to the promotion informed Sherdog.com on Thursday of Clements’ injury, adding that UFC vet Seth Baczynski will step up to fight Garcia for an interim welterweight title at the event.
Ringside 10 goes down April 9 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and will be headlined by a middleweight confrontation between ex-UFC competitors Patrick Cote and Kalib Starnes. The event will also feature both light heavyweight and featherweight title bouts, as Steve Bosse meets Roger Hollett and Michel Gagnon locks horns with Rejean Groulx.
Undefeated through six professional contests, Garcia has finished each of his career victims by either knockout or submission. The Montreal-based training partner of Georges St. Pierre won four fights in 2010, all of them under the Ringside banner. Garcia has been to the third round only once in his career, and has finished all but one of his foes inside the first frame.
A veteran of the defunct International Fight League, Baczynski competed on the 11th season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” getting bounced by eventual winner Court McGee before returning to the show as an injury replacement. After Baczynski lost his next fight by disqualification to Brad Tavares, the two rematched at the season finale. Following three close rounds, Tavares was declared the victor, and “The Polish Pistola” was released from his UFC contract. Most recently, the 29-year-old earned a controversial TKO victory over Tim McKenzie at Tachi Palace Fights 7 in December.
