Clay Collard Plans On Beating Devonte Smith At His Own Game at UFC 241

Clay Collard is back in the UFC after he was released from the promotion in 2015. Since then, he has been fighting on the regional scene, where he went 3-1 with three finishes.

When the promotion needed a short-notice replacement to face Devonte Smith at UFC 241 on Saturday, Collard had his wish come true of getting back into the Octagon.

“I started to jump up and down like a little kid,” Collard said to Sherdog.com. “I’ve been pushing my manager to get re-signed. I thought it would be later, but am very happy it is happening now.”

Although it is short-notice, Collard is confident that he will get his hand raised. He knows Smith is tough but he plans on being the aggressor in the bout and frustrating Smith. Even though he has a very good ground game, “Cassius” says he doesn’t plan on using it.

“I’m a dangerous fighter as well,” he concluded. “I just need to stay busy, and all of his wins have come by knockout in the first round. Just staying in his face and don’t let him get a break. I’m going to beat him at his own game. If he will stand and trade with me I’m glad to do that.”
