Another featherweight showdown has been added to the UFC’s debut on Fox Sports 1, as UFC officials Tuesday announced that Cole Miller will face Manny Gamburyan at the Aug. 17 event.
UFC on Fox Sports 1 takes place at TD Garden in Boston and is headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between ex-champion Mauricio Rua and former three-time UFC title contender Chael Sonnen. The evening’s main card will also see onetime Strikeforce heavyweight ruler Alistair Overeem return to the Octagon to meet Hawaiian talent Travis Browne.
Miller, 29, returned to his winning ways in April after losing back-to-back fights in 2012, submitting WEC veteran Bart Palaszewski with a first-round rear-naked choke at the “TUF 17” finale. “Magrinho” made his UFC debut in 2007 as a member of the “TUF 5” cast and has since racked up an Octagon record of 8-5, besting the likes of Ross Pearson, Jorge Gurgel and T.J. O’Brien.
Another “TUF 5” alum, Gamburyan challenged Jose Aldo for the WEC featherweight belt in 2010, suffering a knockout defeat that kicked off a three-fight skid for the Armenian-born competitor. The 32-year-old halted that losing streak in his most recent outing, however, outpointing Michihiro Omigawa this past August at UFC on Fox 4. Gamburyan was twice expected to return to the cage in 2013 but saw fights with Chad Mendes and Hacran Dias derailed due to injury.
