Combate Americas Returns with Trio of Live Studio Events Beginning on Aug. 28

Combate Americas will return for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the promotion’s operations in March with a trio of closed-studio events.

The fight cards will take place on Aug. 28, Sept. 11 and Sept. 25 in Miami, Florida. The events will be televised on AXS-TV at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT. According to a release, multiple safety measures have been adopted to combat concerns regarding COVID-19.

“Amongst the safety measures being put into action for the series, Combate Americas has hired a dedicated physician to administer COVID-19 testing of all athletes, officials and staff prior to the show and to supervise the health of all personnel on-site in Miami,” read a release. “All Los Angeles, Calif.-based Combate Americas staff will test for COVID-19 prior to departing for Miami, utilizing the free testing recently made available to the public by Los Angeles County.

“All athletes and their respective corner people as well as all Combate Americas staff and officials will undergo both COVID-19 and antibody testing in Miami, in accordance with the new Florida State Boxing Commission requirements.”

The Aug. 28 event will be headlined by a clash between Juan Puerta and David Duran for the inaugural Combate Americas flyweight championship.The organization promises to provide a unique experience to viewers during the live broadcasts, including “on camera interactions with a host of celebrities,” fan polling and voting and a ticker that showcases social media discussion about the event in real time.

“As live sports return to television, Combate Americas is going to utilize this closed set studio series to deliver something that fans have never seen before and that will bring them closer than ever to the action from their screens,” Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren said.
