In the book, Conan recalls his hard path in the United States. His first job in North America was as a dishwasher at a hotel, where he worked for up to 17 hours a day. He also reveals many other difficult obstacles he faced inside and outside of the cage and how important they were to building him as a person and professional.
“I'm an MMA coach. Before that, I was a fighter, a champion and my victories, all of them, were conquered with violence and passion. My sport is violent, but it only makes sense because it is also passionate,” he writes in the book’s introduction. “Without that passion, I would never have been what I am today. It is the passion that moves you in life. Without it, boredom and routine prevail. That's the ingredient that ignites my dream—and probably yours too. Without this ingredient, the dream is nothing more than a distant and remote thought.”
Although the book shares stories of other athletes, among them surfer Maya Gabeira, who suffered multiple fractures when trying to surf a gigantic wave in Nazaré, Portugal, the recommendations and exercises proposed by Conan apply to anyone. He presents a series of questions and graphic schemes so each person is able to set goals and, mostly, define what they really want in life. Facing obstacles and difficulties as part of the process is essential in any field.
The launching ceremony will happen at the fighter’s hotel (Windsor Marapendi) in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro on Jan. 20 after the weigh-in ceremony at Jeunesse Arena.
