Conor McGregor Responds to Dustin Poirier's Call For a Rematch

After former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier failed to dethrone 155-pound king Khabib Nurmagomedov on Saturday at UFC 242, he quickly turned his attention on his next bout seeking a rematch with former champion Conor McGregor.

Poirier originally reached out to McGregor via Twitter suggesting a rematch with the Irishman was a fight he thought make “a lot of sense.” McGregor responded to the call-out, not ruling the fight out, but reminding “The Diamond” of how the first fight had ended.

“I fed you to the canvas in 90 seconds bro. You should have spoke my name with a bit more respect in that build up. ‘McGregor’s not next’ Motherf*cker, it’s McGregor always! McGregor is the goal! Always! Say that now and I’ll think about it.”

The pair previously fought back at UFC 178 in September 2014 in a featherweight bout, with the Irishman making light work of “The Diamond,” finishing him in less than two minutes. Poirier would end up moving up a weight class and recording significant wins including Anthony Pettis, Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje and current featherweight king Max Holloway to win the interim 155-pound belt.

McGregor on the other hand hasn’t fought since UFC 229 last October where he was completely dominated by Nurmagomedov, who submitted him in the fourth round. The match will be best remembered for “The Eagle” jumping into the crowd and attacking McGregor’s teammates, causing a mass brawl which earned him a nine-month suspension.

McGregor received a six-month suspension for his part and was rumored to have been lining up a July return against Gaethje, but that fight never materialised as McGregor injured his hand during a sparring session.
