Following weigh-ins on Monday morning, Kahlon, who hails from Israel, can be heard calling his opponent a “terrorist” during a face-off. Basharat is based in England with the London Shootfighters but is originally from Afghanistan.
Perhaps some of the tension during the face-off stems from Kahlon’s struggles on the scales, as he missed weight by three pounds for the bout, which led to Basharat refusing a handshake from his opponent. The two exchanged words prior to the taunt, and Basharat acknowledged that he heard the insult in a post on his Instagram account.
“This p--y wanted a way out by missing weight by three pounds,” Basharat wrote. “I told him I’m gonna still whoop his arse, he then called me a terrorist. [He] wanted a reaction, again, he wanted a way out. Unlucky for him, I ain’t going nowhere! I’m waiting to see him tomorrow.”
Basharat is 10-0 in his professional career, and if signed, he would join Nasrat Haqparast as the second Afghan fighter on the UFC roster. The 40-year-old Kahlon is 12-0 with all of his victories coming inside the distance.
The Contender Series airs Tuesday on ESPN+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
