‘Cyborg’ Says Ongoing Issues with Dana White Could Prevent Amanda Nunes Rematch

It may not have been a vintage performance in which she clobbered her foe into oblivion, but Cristiane Justino got a victory nonetheless at UFC 240.

Aside from a no contest due to a failed urinalysis nearly eight years ago when she fought for Strikeforce, Justino had won 20 consecutive fights, 17 of which came via knockout before losing in shocking knockout fashion to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 in December. On Saturday night, “Cyborg” got back in the win column with a stellar unanimous decision win over Canadian contender Felicia Spencer.

The Brazilian wrecking machine battered Spencer around the Octagon for three rounds in the co-main event of UFC 240 on Saturday night in Edmonton. “Cyborg” landed dozens upon dozens of clean, hard punches to the head and body, dug knees to her foe’s guts and tore up her legs with kicks. Spencer was tough as nails and even opened a nasty gash on the Chute Boxe legend’s head, a first for “Cyborg.”

“I trained really hard,” Justino said after her win. “Thanks to Felicia for giving me my first cut. I’m happy. I just want to come back and do my job.

“Thank you, God. I feel very blessed to be here,” she added. “The sport is growing and better girls keep showing up. I’m really happy because when I started MMA, there weren’t any girls. Seeing girls in the cage makes me proud.”

Cyborg (21-2, 1 NC) heaped praise upon Spencer for being so tough and was elated to get the win, but her focus quickly turned to what she wants more than anything, which is a rematch with Nunes, a woman who now holds the title of greatest female fighter in the world. Nunes already held the UFC’s bantamweight crown when she bludgeoned “Cyborg” for the promotion’s featherweight belt and Justino wants it back.

“For sure, I want Amanda. I want a rematch,” she declared.

But it might not be as simple as just setting it up, even though MMA fans would watch that slugfest in a second. “Cyborg” has ongoing personal issues with the UFC, in particular its president, Dana White. Their beef is well-known within the sport, and Justino brought it up at the post-fight press conference.

“We have a lot of issues, me and the UFC,” she said. “Media and people don’t see a lot of things inside but we have a lot of things to work to continue to stay [in the UFC]. Everybody knows I don’t have the best and greatest relationship with UFC, I don’t have the best relationship with Dana White. He’s bullied me around, bullied me on the Internet and I’m suffering bullying everywhere because of this. I have a daughter, I have a father and I don’t think it’s nice and he’s never, ever said, ‘I’m sorry’ or told me anything about this. It’s going to continue, it’s not finished.”

One of the things that has irked Justino recently is the notion that she is scared of Nunes and doesn’t want to fight her again. She says White has been spreading lies about the situation and “Cyborg” wanted to set the record straight.

“Like to say I’m scared of Amanda Nunes, to say I don’t want to fight her, this is a liar,” she said. “I text him after the fight saying I want the rematch. This don’t help grow my brand. It damages my brand and if I’m going to work for a promotion, I don’t want someone to damage by brand. I want to work together and we’re going to have to take a little time and see.”
