Dan Hardy Interested in Potential Comeback Fights vs. Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis

Dan Hardy continues to hint that he might not be done with mixed martial arts just yet.

“The Outlaw” hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since September 2012 after a heart condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome forced him to put his career on hold. Hardy transitioned nicely into an analyst’s role, but as recently as 2018 the British striker claimed he had been medically cleared to fight.

So far, nothing has come fruition, but Hardy knows the type of matchup that he would want.

First and foremost, I’m an analyst now,” Hardy recently told ESPN. “I’m a commentator, so I don’t want to fight somebody that’s on a trajectory to a title shot because I’m not interested in stepping in there and upsetting any kind of rankings and involving myself in those type of conversations.”

The soon to be 38-year-old has a couple ideas regarding opponents who might fit that description.

“The people I have had conversations with and about fighting, obviously Cowboy would be at the top of the list because he’d be a great pick,” Hardy said. “Anthony Pettis, that’s something I’ve discussed with [Paul] Felder and he’s discussed with Anthony. That’s a fight that we would both like to happen at some point.

“It’s the guys toward the twilight of their career, the guys that have had a few fights and know themselves and have got good experience, not the guys that are the trajectory to a title shot. That just puts me in an awkward situation. I want to be able to step away from the sport and stay as an analyst because I appreciate this job that I’ve got right now.”

Hardy owns a 6-4 mark in UFC competition and notably challenged for welterweight gold in 2010, losing a unanimous decision to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 111. The longtime Team Rough House representative has compiled a 25-10 career record with one no contest over the course of a professional tenure that began in 2004.
