Dana White No Longer ‘Mentally or Emotionally Invested’ in Fate of Ex-UFC Champ Jon Jones

The long-term fate of Jon Jones has yet to be determined, but don’t expect UFC President Dana White to spend too much time worrying about the future of the former light heavyweight champion.

“Whatever happens [with his suspension], happens,” White told the TSN MMA Show. “Believe me, I’m not mentally or emotionally invested in that anymore.”

Jones briefly regained the 205-pound belt with a third-round stoppage of Daniel Cormier in the UFC 214 headliner on July 29. However, the Jackson-Wink MMA product tested positive for the steroid Turinabol in a urine test administered after weigh-ins on July 28. As a result, Jones’ victory was overturned to a no contest and Cormier was reinstated as light heavyweight champion.

“Bones” could be facing as much as a four-year suspension for his second failed drug test after he tested positive for two estrogen blockers prior to UFC 200. He has a hearing with the California State Athletic Commission scheduled for December and will also face discipline from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

Jones was initially stripped of the light heavyweight title and suspended indefinitely for fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, N.M., in April 2015. Due to various in and out-of-the cage issues, Jones has fought just three times in the past three years.

“[It’s the biggest waste of talent] ever. Ever, in all of sports. The guy is so talented and gifted, God knows what he’d be doing right now if he had never got in trouble,” White said. “He could possibly be the heavyweight champion and have the defense record that couldn’t be broken. The list goes on and on of what could’ve been with Jon Jones.”
