After Amanda Nunes shocked the world and knocked out Cristiane Justino at UFC 232, many thought a rematch would be next. After all, “Cyborg” has been a dominant champion and was on a 21-fight unbeaten streak.
But, the rematch has yet to happen and since their bout, Nunes fought and beat Holly Holm while Justino will meet Felicia Spencer on Saturday at UFC 240. According to UFC president Dana White, it is “Cyborg” who doesn’t want the rematch, as both Nunes and the promotion want to see that fight happen again.
“She [Nunes] wants the Cyborg fight, but I don’t think Cyborg wants that fight. It is pretty obvious why she doesn’t want that fight,” White explained to TMZ Sports. “It is not a good fight for her, it is a bad fight for her.
“I don’t think she is afraid, but I think she is at the point where she is afraid to lose again. Losing again is something she isn’t interested in. She doesn’t want to fight her, Amanda wants it, we want it. She doesn’t want it.”
White has echoed this sentiment on numerous occasions. Each time, Justino has denied White’s claim. Regardless, “Cyborg” is on the last fight of her UFC contract, so her next move remains unclear.
