Dana White Shares Before, After Photos of Raulian Paiva’s Gruesome Eye Injury

By Tristen Critchfield Aug 11, 2019

Before Mike Perry’s mangled nose got all the attention, the gash above Raulian Paiva’s right eye was the most gruesome injury of UFC Uruguay on Saturday night.

Rogerio Bontorin opened the cut with a knee strike to Paiva’s face in the opening frame of their preliminary flyweight encounter. While Paiva landed a left hook that resulted in a large hematoma under his opponent’s left eye, Bontorin’s blow was more significant. The cut on Paiva’s eyelid was wide and deep, and the contest was halted by a cageside doctor at the 2:56 mark of Round 1.

After the bout, UFC president Dana White shared a photo of Paiva’s injury before stiches and then again after the work was completed.

“Too bad I couldn’t keep fighting,” Paiva wrote in the comments section under White’s second post. But thank you very much [UFC] for taking care of me.”
