If all goes as planned, Anderson Silva will have two more fights in the UFC before he retires from mixed martial arts.

Silva has not competed since suffering a TKO loss to Jared Cannonier via leg kicks at UFC 237 in May 2019. “The Spider” turned 45 in April and has been victorious just once in eight promotional appearances dating back to 2013. According to UFC president Dana White, there is no clear direction for the former middleweight champion at this point in time.

“I don’t know,” White told ESPN. “I honestly don’t know what to do with his last two fights. When Anderson’s really ready to fight, we’ll sit down and look at it, and we’ll figure out what we thinks makes sense for him next. There’s a lot of things in the decision-making process with an Anderson Silva. His age, what he gets paid – all that stuff’s important.”

In recent weeks, Silva expressed an interest in a catchweight bout against Conor McGregor, a notion that White quickly shut down.

More recently, Anthony Pettis threw his hat into the ring for a showdown with Silva. Once again, White was not especially intrigued by the possibility.

“I’m gonna tell you why I’m not crazy about it,” White said. “You’ve got a guy that fought at 145 pounds one time and a guy that’s in the conversation for the GOAT at 185 pounds and walks around at 210, 215. It’s not a big fight that really means something. I like making fights that mean something, so I’m not crazy about that fight.”
