Will Santiago Jr. vs. Kevin Holland

Round 1

Holland takes the center of the cage early. His 11.5 inch reach advantage is quite visible with the fighters now face to face in the Octagon. Santiago catches Holland off guard with a left hook. They clinch and after a scramble, Holland takes his man down with a single leg near the fence. Santiago works his way up and Holland lands a left hook on the exit. Santiago is unfazed. Holland lands a short knee and has some words for Santiago. He connects with a punching combination then moves away. Holland feints with his hands and lands a low kick to his opponent’s lead leg. Another low kick lands for Holland as Santiago circles away. Santiago moves in and whiffs on a big two punch combination as Holland slides out of danger. A straight left lands for Holland. Holland lands a glancing jumping knee, then Santiago blocks a high kick. The middleweights trade left hooks in the final 10 seconds. 10-9 Holland.

Round 2

Holland rushes in to his shorter foe and lands a body kick before angling out of danger. A spinning back fist misses high for Holland. Holland lands a pair of low kicks ot Santiago’s calf. Santiago ducks under a high kick and counters with an overhand right. Holland lands a body kick. They’re trading more liberally now, but neither is able to land. A looping right hook finds the range for Santiago and an ensuing exchange, but the Jackson-Wink MMA product can’t follow up on the offering. Holland uses kicks to keep the distance and then he sticks his foe with a right hand near the cage than wobbles his foe. Santiago looks hurt and Holland follows up with an uppercut and a flying knee against the cage. Santiago is able to get off the cage, but he’s now bleeding from a cut underneath his left eye. Holland flicks out a trio of jabs and then closes the distance with a flying knee. Santiago sidesteps the maneuver as his cut continues to leak blood. Santiago ducks under a punch and lands a two-piece to the body. Holland answers with a pair of low kicks. A spinning high kick by Holland is blocked by Santiago just before the horn. 10-9 Holland.

Round 3

Holland comes out carelessly throwing kicks and is knocked off balance by a big Santiago left hand. Holland shakes it off quickly and screams at his opponent. Holland uses his jab to maintain the range and then connects with a straight. Holland references the Diaz brothers to his foe before slapping at Santiago. Holland lands a one-two and follows it up with an uppercut. He barely dodges a big left hand by Santiago, but he doesn’t appear to have any sense of urgency. Holland throws an open handed slap and follows up with a two-punch combo. A right hand lands directly to the chin of Santiago. Holland is controlling the round with his length and range. However, Holland’s insistence on showboating allows Santiago to take him down near the cage. Holland gets right back up as Santiago presses his adversary into the fence. They separate with 20 seconds left. Holland backs up Santiago with a standing side kick to the body, then rushes forward and jumps guard. He can’t bring Santiago to the canvas, and the round ends there. 10-9 Holland (30-27 Holland).

Montel Jackson vs. Rico DiSciullo

Round 1

Herb Dean is the third man in the cage for this bantamweight bout. DiSciullo lands an inside low kick and then has a head kick blocked. DiSciullo blocks a body kick from Jackson. A one-two combination lands for Jackson. DiSciullo is using a variety of kicks and feints early, and he lands another leg kick. They clinch briefly and Jackson lands a knee on the break. Jackson tags his foe with a two-punch combination. Jackson pressures his man against the fence. He’s throwing punches and follows up with a knee. A big one-two combination lands clean and drops DiSciullo. Jackson follows him to the ground, looking to finish. Jackson lands ground-and-pound as DiSciullo covers up. DiScuillo gives up his back and attempts to stand. As that happens, Jackson lands a blatant elbow to the back of the head. Dean pauses the action and takes a point away from Jackson, who was clearly in control up until that point. DiSciullo has recovered and they begin in the center of the cage. DiSciullo seems to be moving well, and he lands a low kick. Jackson pressures with a knee and punches, but the foot on the follow-through lands on DiSciullo’s cup, and Dean pauses the action again. Jackson will get a hard warning this time, and the action resumes. DiSciullo times a takedown but it’s stuffed easily by Jackson. 9-9.

Round 2

DiSciullo feints a spinning attack and lands an inside low kick. Jackson is stalking his foe and he has a high kick blocked. DiSciullo answers with another low kick. Jackson closes the range and grabs a rear waist lock. Jackson pushes his opponent into the fence and muscles him to the ground. DiSciullo works to stand, but he’s eating left hands from Jackson, who maintains a body lock. Jackson turns DiSciullo away from the fence and gets him back to the canvas. Jackson lands a knee to the body as DiSciullo stands. Jackson slams his opponent right back down and lands in side control. DiSciullo tries to push off the fence and roll for a submission, but Jackson maintains control. He moves from a front headlock to back control before setting up in half guard against the fence. Jackson utilizes the wrestling ride, landing left hands as DiSciullo struggles to get to his feet. DiSciullo rolls for a kneebar but doesn’t come close to locking in the submission. Jackson goes back to the wrestling ride, and he softens up DiSciullo with knees to the body and short right hands to the head. 10-9 Jackson.

Round 3

Jackson lands a body kick then avoids a counter combination. A right hand connects for DiSciullo. A stiff jab for Jackson snaps DiSciullo’s head back during an exchange. DiSciullo misses a couple wild right hands. Jackson extends his hand with his fingers out, and DiSciullo runs right into it. Dean pauses the action, and DiSciullo is clearly frustrated by what is Jackson’s third foul of the contest. A physician is called in to give DiSciullo a look. The CES MMA veteran insists he is good to continue. After having warned Jackson about his fingers earlier in the bout, Dean deducts yet another point from Jackson before the action resumes. DiSciullo, perhaps sensing an opportunity, comes out aggressively. However, it’s Jackson that hurts DiSciullo with a knee when his opponent ducks right into the blow. DiSciullo covers up and Jackson tees off with punches. DiSciullo is cut badly, but Dean is still letting this fight go. DiSciullo turns away from his foe and covers up, and finally the veteran official steps in to wave off the bout.

Greg Hardy vs. Austen Lane

Round 1

Mark Smith will be the referee for this matchup of former NFL players. They’re both throwing big punches early, and Hardy lands an inadvertent eye poke in an initial exchange. The action resumes and Lane lands a pair of jabs followed up by a right hand. Hardy looks unfazed and his pressuring his opponent. A right hook from Hardy lands behind the ear and completely stuns Lane, dropping him to a knee. Lane is still dazed, and he turns away from Hardy as he attempts to stand. That allows Hard to wallop Lane with a follow-up left to the chin, and Lane crumples to the canvas. And just like that, Hardy has a victory in his professional MMA debut.

Chris Curtis vs. Sean Lally

Round 1

Herb Dean is the official for this welterweight affair. Lally opens using leg kicks to control distance. Lally lands another low kick, but Curtis presses ahead and lands a nice uppercut right down the middle. As they trade, Curtis works the body effectively, including another uppercut. Lally is swinging big punches, but Curtis is able to slip and move. Lally appears to be bleeding from his nose. Lally throws a head kick but Curtis blocks it and grins at his opponent. A left hand lands for Curtis as Lally backs up. Lally throws a body kick, but it’s partially blocked. A right hand lands for Lally. Curtis smiles and stalks his foe. Curtis lands a right and slides away before the horn sounds. 10-9 Curtis.

Round 2

Lally opens up with an inside leg kick. A straight left lands on the jaw for Curtis. A counter shot lands for Curtis as Lally moves in. Curtis is poised and methodical, picking his spots to land punches. Lally is staying busy, but he’s not landing. A one-two from Curtis lands clean, and the straight left briefly rocks Lally. Curtis keeps the pressure on, but Lally is still in the fight, rifling off punches. Lally lands a jab, but Curtis answers with an uppercut. A left connects for Curtis. Lally responds with a low kick and Curtis responds with a pair of stiff jabs. A combination lands for Lally. Curtis lands another jab and then ducks under a Lally punch. An uppercut to the body lands for Curtis and he follow up with a punch over the top in the waning moments of the frame. 10-9 Curtis.

Round 3

Lally opens with a high kick that’s blocked by Curtis, but it still backs him up. Lally is on the attack, but Curtis is able to re-establish control of the cage after a few moments. A right hand over the top partially lands for Lally. Lally throws a body kick. Out of nowhere, Curtis drops Lally with a lead hook kick, his heel landing directly on his opponent’s face. Curtis goes to the floor and lands three follow-up punches before Dean steps in to intervene on Lally’s behalf.

Alonzo Menifield vs. Dashawn Boatwright

Round 1

Mark Smith will oversee tonight’s light heavyweight main event. Menifield wastes absolutely no time closing the distance, and Boatwright attempts to catch him with a head kick. However, an overhand right sends Boatwright to the canvas. Menifield follows his man to the floor and unloads with approximately five left hands. One of the shots appears to knock Boatwright out, and another appears to bring him back to consciousness. Regardless, Smith has seen enough and he steps in to end the bout. Just like that Menifield has the quickest knockout finish in the brief history of the Contender Series.
