David Rickels Explains How He Will Be the First to Beat Yaroslav Amosov

David Rickels is confident he will take the "0" from Yaroslav Amosov's record.

Ukraine's Amosov is 21-0, with an unblemished record that includes a pair of decision victories over Gerald Harris and Erick Silva in Bellator MMA. Despite this, Rickels knows he has what it takes to beat him. "The Caveman" explained to Sherdog.com that he has to keep this fight standing, and cannot afford to engage in grappling exchanges.

"My path to victory is outlanding him. When I win fights, it is volume. I throw a lot of punches, and push a pace a lot of fighters can't," Rickels admitted. "Then a lot of tenacity. A lot of grit. You can't let that guy break you as far as grappling goes. The Erick Silva fight, I felt Silva gave up. So, I expect to put a lot of pressure on him and keep the fight moving. Any time we slow down [it] will be a bad thing. I don't want it to slow down, I want it to be a very high-paced fight."

If he does just that, he is confident he can extend his winning streak to three, which would be his longest since he won four straight from 2012-2013. Additionally, he expects this win would propel him to the top of the division, once again showing he is a legitimate threat.

"Yeah, this is a great opponent for me to put my name back on the map. To knock off an undefeated fighter, it would be hard not to get some props for that," he explained. "I think I am the right man to do [it]. This is a great matchup for me and I'm excited to throw down."

While considering that such a victory may propel him to the top of the pecking order, he isn't focusing on what comes later. Instead, "The Caveman" claims Amosov deserves his full attention.

"I don't know [what's next]. Nor, do I care. I'm just focused on this fight and would love to give this guy his first loss," he concluded.
