Denice Zamboanga Upends Hayatun Jihin Radzuan in One ‘Mark of Greatness’ Headliner

The One Championship promotion on Friday set up shop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with One “Mark of Greatness” at the Axiata Arena.

In the MMA main event, Denice Zamboanga (3-0) snapped Hayatun Jihin Radzuan’s four-fight winning streak after three rounds. Both fighters approached this contest with cautious game plans in a bid not to expose themselves. Inactvity continued for some time, until referee Olivier Coste warned both contenders with a yellow card. In spite of the fact that most in the arena were cheering for the local hero in Radzuan (5-2), she could not find an answer for her opponent’s takedowns and incessant pressure from dominant positions. Eventually, all three judges awarded Zamboanga a unanimous decision.

The MMA co-headliner featured a 170-pound clash between hometown favorite Agilan Thani and Dante Schiro. The American stepped in on late notice to take on “The Alligator,” but even so, he managed to put his opponent in serious difficulty. The contenders tested each other’s wrestling skills, with the majority of the first two rounds taking place on the ground or against the fence. In the third stanza, it seemed that Schiro (6-1) adjusted to his opponent’s distance and drew first blood by cutting Thani (11-4) on his left eye. At the end of the contest, though, two of three judges rewarded Thani’s relentless offensive with a split decision.

In a 135-pound showcase, Reece McLaren (13-7) submitted Gurdarshan Mangat (15-3) with a slick rear-naked choke 4:35 into the opening stanza.

In the opening MMA bout, Bokang Masunyane (7-0) managed to keep his record clean and edged Ryuto Sawada (12-5-1) via unanimous decision.
