“Diego Sanchez is somebody that has been calling me out for years and is like a veteran fighter,” Maia said. “Let’s see. If people like [the fight], I can do.”
The two have called each other out in the past, and with both of their careers winding down, they want the fight to happen. Following the latest callout by Maia, Sanchez took to Instagram, where he seemingly accepted the fight.
“Let’s go [Dana White] I didn’t get the go on the [Anthony Pettis] fight I have paid my dues, only you know the truth of my last outing. Let’s put it together Jan 18th in Vegas!!! Two legends want to dance let us dance!,” Sanchez wrote.
Sanchez is coming off of a decision loss to Michael Chiesa at UFC 239. The loss snapped his two-fight winning streak after he beat Craig White by decision and Mickey Gall by TKO.
Maia, meanwhile, is now on a three-fight winning streak with wins over Lyman Good, Anthony Rocco Martin and now, Ben Askren.
