Domingo Pilarte Says Making UFC Debut in Home State is a 'Dream Come True'

Domingo Pilarte is ready to make his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in front of friends and family this weekend.

Pilarte (8-1) earned his way into the UFC by submitting Vince Morales in the second round on Dana White's Contender Series last summer. Yet, that was back in July, and a full year later he will finally make his walk to the Octagon.

Originally slated to fight Brian Kelleher at UFC 230, a serious injury kept "Son of Fire" on the shelf for months. Come Saturday, he will make his UFC debut, and he gets to do it in front of a home crowd.

"It is a dream come true. A lot of people start fighting as a hobby, and for me, I started training MMA when I was very young. Going into high school I started to train full-time," Pilarte said to Sherdog.com. "In college I fought part-time and it took me a long time to get here. I had my first fight in 2008. Just to be in the UFC is a dream come true.

"It is great. I was letdown I couldn't fight at MSG. Now, I have this opportunity to fight in my home state is even better," he continued. "I get to look forward to have a bunch of family and friends come out and support me."

Welcoming Pilarte to the UFC is Felipe Dias Colares (8-1), who dropped his own promotional debut. Although Colares has yet to win in the company, Pilarte says this is an opponent that will bring the best out of him. He is a jiu-jitsu fighter similar to "Son of Fire," so he believes he will keep it standing and show off his boxing. Once he does that, he is confident it will be too much for his opponent.

"We know that he is a jiu-jitsu guy and likes to grapple a lot. I want to keep it on the feet and see how it plays out," Pilarte concluded. "I know what I am going to bring to the fight and I think he won't want to deal with the standup for long. It will be hard for him to take me down if he wants to shoot. I'm confident wherever."
